Logical Wireless extends satellite broadband services for firms in Africa

Data Centre Afrika

The agreement with Avanti means that even more businesses and consumers will be able to access “fibre-like” broadband services in the sub-Saharan region, with carriers also able to enjoy direct connections to cloud platforms.

Logical Wireless has signed a pan-African master service agreement with Avanti Communications to provide connectivity services to enterprises and end consumers located in remote areas across Africa.

The satellite services integrator, based in South Africa, says it will use Avanti’s new HYLAS 4 satellite to complete its coverage of sub-Saharan Africa, and provide “cost-effective and reliable” satellite internet services to regions that suffer from unreliable or non-existent connectivity.

The Avanti partnership will also enable Logical Wireless to provide carriers and telecom providers with direct access to cloud and content platforms in Africa’s largest data centre in Johannesburg, making services more efficient and cost-effective for them.

Avanti sales director for Southern Africa Brenden Pronk said: “This partnership is another milestone in our mission to help liberate the potential of people and businesses wherever they are located.”

Logical Wireless managing director Gavin Behr said: “It becomes problematic in remote areas where no forms of terrestrial connectivity are available. The partnership with Avanti enables us to deploy satellite broadband services that can be installed anywhere, and provide a complete communication and connectivity solution to allow individuals and companies to conduct business as if they were in a city.”

Construction, mining and agriculture are some of the types of businesses Logical Wireless is building a niche in, usually because they are based in remote areas. Its VSAT offering on the Ka band frequency is a relatively new technology, providing high-speed satellite solutions of up to 45mbps for corporates, and 15mbps for small businesses and individuals.

Services are available throughout South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland, and the company’s customer base extends from Zimbabwe and Botswana to Namibia, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Angola, Congo, Gabon and Malawi.

Current clients include African Rainbow Minerals, Armscor, DRD Gold, Conco, Firestone Diamonds, Mothae Diamonds and Assore, as well as the farming community throughout Africa.
