Data Centre Afrika

Morocco telecoms firms inwi has inaugurated its new Tier III data centre in Rabat. The facility is located at the Rabat Technopolis site and will contribute to allowing Moroccon organisations to keep all their cloud data in the country.

The data centre offers 11,000 square feet of IT space and it is expandable by a further 11,000 square feet said the company, which offers business cloud services, hosting, a national mobile network, consumer web access and digital entertainment services.

The company now offers a total of 44,000 square feet of data centre space around the country.

“This data centre shows inwi’s commitment to the digital transformation of our economy. It strengthens inwi data centre infrastructure to offer Moroccan companies hosting and development services, in accordance with international standards in terms of connectivity, efficiency and security,” said Nadia Fassi-Fehri, chief executive officer of inwi.

She added: “It is also the perfect illustration of the continuous investment efforts made by us to provide Morocco with cutting-edge technological infrastructure to help build a sovereign cloud, where 100% of data is hosted in the country, on an identified and fully secure site. This improves the competitiveness and attractiveness of our economy.”

inwi is jointly owned by ONA and Kuwait’s Zain. In other North African data centre news, the Agricultural Bank of Egypt (ABE) told Daily News Egypt, that it plans to establish a new data centre, to “implement a sophisticated core banking system, in accordance with best practices on information security systems”.

The first phase of a new IT strategy is to be implemented “within 12 months” and will include preparing the specification and prospectus for the data centre, and a new CRM and ERP system.
